Welcome to the Whittier Law Group (WLG): Navigating Complex International Trade and Customs Law with 25+ years of Expertise.

At WLG, we specialize in providing top-notch legal services in international trade and customs law with a particular focus on Title 19 laws, FDA and USDA import regulations, International Trade Commission (ITC) regulations, and Department of Treasury OFAC sanctions. Our team of dedicated attorneys is committed to helping businesses and individuals effectively manage the legal complexities of international trade and protect their interests in a global marketplace.

Our Client Services in International Trade and Customs Law include:

1. Title 19 Compliance: Our attorneys have extensive experience in handling matters relating to Title 19 of the United States Code, which governs customs duties and international trade. We provide expert guidance on tariff classification, valuation, country of origin determination, and other customs compliance issues.

2. FDA and USDA Import Regulations: We advise clients on the complex import regulations imposed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on food, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and other regulated products. Our team ensures that your imports meet all applicable standards and requirements to avoid costly delays and penalties.

3. International Trade Commission (ITC) Regulations: Our attorneys possess in-depth knowledge of the ITC regulations and procedures, including Section 337 investigations, intellectual property rights enforcement, and antidumping/countervailing duty cases. We provide strategic representation to protect your interests and secure favorable outcomes in ITC proceedings.

4. Department of Treasury OFAC Sanctions: Our team is well-versed in the intricacies of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions regulations, which govern economic and trade restrictions against targeted foreign countries, entities, and individuals. We assist clients in navigating these sanctions, ensuring compliance, and obtaining necessary licenses for conducting business with sanctioned parties.

5. Customs Audits and Investigations: We represent clients in customs audits, investigations, and enforcement actions, helping to resolve disputes, mitigate penalties, and develop effective compliance programs to minimize future risks.

6. Dispute Resolution: Our experienced attorneys provide strategic advice and representation in international trade disputes, including WTO dispute settlement proceedings, regional trade disputes, and investor-state arbitrations.

Trial Experience

Our U.S. and U.K. attorneys and barristers take a notable number of cases to trial every year, where we utilize seasoned skills in implementing the tactical and strategic measures that determine the success or failure of a case.

Our firm specializes in obtaining creditor judgments for clients seeking to enforce foreign judgments obtained in other states or outside the U.S., or U.K. altogether. Increasingly, unscrupulous businesspeople are taking advantage of less stringent credit checks being conducted by business partners in Europe and Asia. These bad actors are also benefitting from lax enforcement of money judgments in many jurisdictions around the world.

International companies that may appear legitimate (but are in fact not) are obtaining goods and services on forward payment or credit terms from U.S. firms and then fail to pay. Due to the status of the United States and particularly New York as a financial center, these companies often hold substantial assets in the U.S. The WLG can utilize its considerable legal and investigative facilities to track and identify the location of these debtor companies’ U.S. assets, and then proceed to enforce our clients’ judgments against those assets. We also represent clients in similar circumstances in courts and arbitration proceedings in the United Kingdom.

Our global network of attorneys allows the Whittier Law Group to appear, prosecute or defend our clients’ cases on virtually every continent of the globe. And while our attorneys have decades of experience before judge, jury or arbitration panel, the fact is that the overwhelming majority of litigation is resolved either through motion practice and/or settlement. It is our trial preparation and proactive discovery that helps us file more effective motions and obtain more favorable settlements on behalf of our clients.

Legal Advisory Services

Our litigation department is regularly required to advise public and private companies and their boards of directors in a variety of areas ranging from equity control disputes, to corporate housekeeping issues, to shareholder derivative and direct actions. Our attorneys have conducted internal investigations of both public and private entities, including retentions by independent board members of publicly held companies.

We invite you to contact The Whittier Law Group at 212-537-9185, for a consultation on how you and your business can benefit from our expert and proactive legal representation.
